The candlestick is traditionally used by the Kyle family, (the three-branched design was suggested by the Lord Lyon so as not imply relation to ‘of that ilk’). The blue chief represents the sky (punning caelius or heaven). Similarly, the star is a pun on the constellation Caelum. Mr Kyle was born on Christmas Day, hence a ‘Wise-men’s Star’. The crest is a direct pun on the legendary source of the name Kyles from the nursery rhyme figure of Old King Cole.
